Brow Lamination & Tints FAQ

how does brow lamination work?

Brow lamination is essentially a perm for your eyebrow hairs. It relaxes the hairs so that they can be more manageable and easily manipulated. As a result, the natural eyebrow hairs can be lifted and can create the illusion of thicker, fuller and more defined brows. There are many ways to style laminated brows such as the feathery and fluffy (soap brows look), or the clean and sleek look. Regardless of the way you style them, it helps to overall give your brows more fullness, more shape and more life!

how long does brow lami last?

The lifted brow effect can last up to 6-8 weeks before you will notice it start to relax back into its natural state.

Do I have to get the tint with it? How long does the tint last?

The regular tint is optional! The tint is only meant to last for a few days up to a week as it is primarily meant to stain the natural brow hairs. The added tint, however, helps to give some extra definition and shape to the brows for the meantime!

Who is it best suited for?

  • Those who:

    • Have uneven brows, cowlicks, straight, and/or unruly brows

    • Wish to have fuller looking brows

    • Want to easily achieve that fluffy, feathery look

who is it not suited for?

  • Clients who:

    • Have Alopecia on their brows

    • Have large, troublesome patches where there is no hair growth

    • Don’t wish to add anymore fullness to their brows

    • Have dry or damaged hairs

Not sure if brow lamination is for you? Consult with me and I can further assess your brows to see if you are the right fit for the service.

Once my brow artist has styled my brows at the end of my appointment, will they continue to stay that way?

No, the gist of brow lamination is that it relaxes your eyebrow hairs to make them much more manageable. With that said, the brows will not stay stuck up in the way that I’ve styled them after your appointment. It will still require you to style and brush them daily to whichever look you want. However, daily styling is still very minimal and easy - you only need a good brow gel/brow soap to keep those hairs in place and a brow oil to keep them nourished and healthy!

I also take some time at the end of the appointment to show you the different ways in which you can style your newly laminated brows.

how often can I get brow lamination done?

You must wait at least 8-12 weeks or until your hair has gone back to its natural state so as to let your brows fully grow and to avoid over-processing your natural brow hairs.

Can I get brow henna and brow lamination done in one appointment?

No, you must wait at least 48 hours after your initial brow lamination procedure to get your brows henna’d, to avoid any possible reactions.

Currently I am working on introducing a new service/product which will allow for these two services to combine in

How can I prepare for my brow lamination appointment to ensure best results?

  • My number one tip is to NOT trim your brow hairs for at least 2-4 weeksprior to coming in! This allows us to work with the most amount of hair as possible and avoid working with uneven hair.

  • And of course, please show up to your appointment with CLEAN and product-free brows.

Can I use brow make-up with them?

After the 24 hour period following your appointment, you can absolutely wear your favorite brow makeup to style and further define them!

How does brow henna work?

Henna comes from an ancient plant known for its colouring properties. When it is properly applied on the brows it leaves behind a beautiful brown stain which closely mimics the filled-in, make-up effect.

Who is brow henna best suited for?

  • Clients who

    • Prefer the filled-in, makeup effect

    • Have sparse brows

    • Want to improve the overall shape and look for their brows

    • Are not yet ready to commit to eyebrow microblading/tattoos

    • those who have had their brows previously microbladed and want to freshen up their brow shape [brows must be healed!]

how long does brow henna last?

Brow Henna can stain the hairs for 4+ weeks, and can stain the skin anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on skin type, skin care, and aftercare. Brow Henna typically tends to fade faster on those who have oily skin.

Who is brow henna NOT suited for?

  • Those with:

    •  psoriasis and/or eczema

    • Very oily or very dry skin

    • Alopecia

    • Very sensitive skin

    • Have had recent eye surgery

How often can I get brow henna done?

I always advise to wait at least 4 weeks until you come back for another brow henna session - all of the previous henna must be gone.

I have sensitive skin and am worried about getting a reaction. Do you offer patch tests?

You can get a patch test done 48 hours prior to your initial appointment. A patch test will involve applying a small amount of henna on the inner wrist and behind the ear and seeing if any reactions occur within the first 48 hours following the patch test.  I highly recommend a patch test for clients who have high skin- and/or product- sensitivities.

Why does it look so dark right after the appointment?

The henna may appear as if it's getting darker within the first 12 hours, but that is because it is still oxidizing (reacting with the air.) After the first 24 hours, the henna will complete its oxidizing phase and will lighten thereafter day after day.

How far in advance should I get my brow henna done prior to an important event?

If you want your brows done for a specific event, I highly recommend getting them done at least 24-48 hours prior to the event as this is when the brows will be especially fresh and vibrant, and the 24 hours gives you time to keep them dry as you must avoid showering or makeup application within the first 24 hours

HOW TO LOOK AFTER BROW LAMINATION IN THE FIRST 24/48 HOURS AFTER TREATMENT

As part of your eyebrow lamination aftercare, it is crucial that you:

  • Avoid getting the brow area wet for 24 hours
  • Avoid contact with direct sunlight, sunbeds, saunas, steam rooms and swimming pools for the next 48 hours
  • Avoiding excessive rubbing or touching of the treated area for 24 hours

We also recommend that you follow these guidelines in the run up to and the days after your royalty beauty palace treatment:

  • Avoid using exfoliating (be it AHA, BHA or scrubs) and anti-ageing skincare around the brow area for three days either side of your treatment
  • Avoid fake tanning products (including gradual tan) on the face for three days either side of your treatment, as it can discolour the eyebrow tint (unless you’re after khaki coloured brows)
  • Your stylist will apply some make up at the end of your treatment, however you should avoid applying any further heavy make up (foundations, etc) on the area around the brow for 24 hours

HOW DO I KEEP MY BROWS IN SHAPE AFTER BROW LAMINATION?

Brow lamination does not permanently set your hairs in your desired, brushed up position. It breaks down the bonds in your hair so that you can easily manipulate them into the look you want. All you’ll need to do is brush them back into place with a spoolie brush in the morning to get them back to that fluffy finish – no product required. These results will last for 6-8 weeks

CAN I GET MY LAMINATED BROWS WET?

You should avoid getting your brows wet for the first 24 hours after your treatment. Coming into contact with water could interfere with the lamination process and impact the longevity of your treatment. Avoid swimming pools and baths for 24 hours and be extra careful in the shower and when washing your face (avoiding if possible).

CAN I WEAR MAKEUP AFTER BROW LAMINATION?

Your stylist can apply some make up to complete your treatment. After that, we recommend that you avoid applying any heavy make up around the brow (such as foundation or concealer) for 24 hours after. The hair follicles can remain open for a while after hair removal, so if you are prone to sensitivity or breakouts, you may find that heavy make up could clog the pores.

CAN I GO ON A SUNBED AFTER BROW LAMINATION?

After hair removal, the skin can be left sensitive and prone to irritation from heat. For this reason, you should avoid sunbeds for at least 48 hours after your brow lamination treatment.

HOW CAN I REMOVE BROW LAMINATION?

Brow lamination is a chemical process, similar to a lash lift or hair perm, so is not something that can be removed. However, the hairs are not fixed in place so if you don’t like the brushed up position, you can simply brush them back down with a spoolie brush and they will stay in place all day. The results will fade after 6-8 weeks and your brows will return to their natural growth pattern.

WHAT SHOULD I NOT DO AFTER BROW LAMINATION?

Here’s what not to do after your brow lamination treatment:

Do not get the brows wet for 24 hours

Do not use sunbeds, saunas, steam rooms and swimming pools for 48 hours

Do not touch or rub the treated area for 24 hours after your treatment

Do not exfoliate or apply anti-ageing skincare or tanning products around the brows for three days after your treatment

Do not forget to apply your conditioning serum twice daily

Stick to these rules for the very best results.
